Programmes for 16-25 Year Olds
RHL works in partnership with two local charitiesin Aldershot to deliver three activities for this age group which address issues of self esteem and healthy living and helps participants to get their lives back “on track”.
YOUTH MENTORING
Our Youth Mentoring activity recruits members of the community to provide volunteer one to one support to young people, empowering them to make choices that will enable them to fulfil their potential.
Once trained and police checked, a mentor is matched to a young person who has self referred, or has been referred to the scheme from another agency. The match is based on mutual interests or skills and an introductory session is held to ensure both mentor and young person are happy with the match. The pair will then arrange to meet each week and work together on goals that they agree will help the young person. Examples include, learning a new skill through going together to an evening class, finding out about college courses or taking up a sport.
Last year we supported in the region of 40 people, some returned to education, others secured work, some accessed benefits or housing to which they were entitled.
NEET and POSITIVE ACTIVITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
In April this year we secured contracts with Connexions to run two new contracts. One is
NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), offering practical support and guidance to young people who lack the motivation or inspiration to progress with education and career options. The other is PAYP (Positive Activities For Young People) aimed at 13 to 19 year olds who are at risk of, or are engaged in offending or anti-social behaviour. It comprises three strands: Anger Management Courses, Volunteer Placements and Diversionary Activities
