Walks

"A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world" - Paul D White, Cardiologist.

Walking is good for you!
Regular walking has many benefits. It improves overall health, reduces your risk of heart disease, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure and stress levels. Above all it’s a fun, free, group activity where you can meet new people and make new friends.

In 2009 RHL was awarded £99,000 by Natural England’s ‘Access to Nature’ programme to set up an exciting new walks programme for Rushmoor residents. Called, Step Into Nature! the programme provides an opportunity for participants to get out into the countryside and participate in healthy exercise at the same time.

RHL walks are planned beforehand and led by trained volunteers. Our funding from Natural England is aimed at encouraging people from all walks of life to enjoy and learn more about the natural environment; so wherever possible our routes will access natural areas, urban green space, and countryside in and around Rushmoor. There is also the added bonus of meeting for refreshments afterwards and making new friends.

With the support of a wide range of local partner organisations, RHL has developed a regular series of walks within the surrounding area.

Activity Leader, Chris Pieters at RHL says ‘The walks will offer something for people of all ages and walkers will have the opportunity to learn more about what the countryside has to offer. We already have a small team of trained volunteers leading a programme of regular weekly walks but we do need more!"

Anyone who is interested in walking or training as a volunteer walks leader please call me on 01252 362660.

“GREAT FUN! I loved the drums; it was a quite magical setting in the woods with sun streaming through and playing ‘native’ music on ‘native’ drums!”
